Florida Cowman

My Family (The Brannans) were some of the first to settle in Georgia and Florida. I was told by my Grandfather, Drew Brannan that there was once buffalo that roamed in South Georgia and Florida. I have asked a lot of the older Cattleman while I was a (Bull hauler) truck driver that hauled cattle from Florida to Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, California and many other Western states. As for the Buffalo it is also in a book written by Doyle Conner, the Commissioner of Agriculture for the state of Florida at once time. My Grandfather rode as a Range rider, as they called them at that time, in the early 1900's. They rode horse back from farm to farm checking on screw worms & ticks for the Dept. of Agriculture.

I remember as a child the stories that my grandfather told of the old cattleman in Florida and Georgia. It stayed with ma all my life. I am currently 62. Having read many books, about Georgia and Florida about the first trail drivers were in Florida. That statement came from the book, “The Florida Cowman”. Getting on with it, I have always been interest in horses & Cattle. And having studies Quarter horse bloodlines all my life, have learned just enough to get me in trouble. But though friends like RD Roberts in the “Great State of Nebraska” and hauling horses to all points in the US. Owning quarter horses all my life, most of them were never registered . I have even been able to meet people like Carol Harris of Redick , Florida. She has forgot more about horses than most people will ever know! She has proven that with Rugged Lark, and many other good roses.

I like the old foundation quarter horse. Some people say they are too small and muscle bound, but I like them. Everyone can't have the best.  So I decided to go with some horses that as Hank Weiscamp had to say.- Middle of the Road Good Horses. I have been able to get 2 or 3 branded mares, & one branded buckskin stallion. One palomino stallion, AGD Skips My Dad, Skipper W on the trop, Showdown, Leo San Siemon, Joe Reed. Sweet San on the bottom. Another “Yeller Hoss” that is Harlan on the top and Sugar Bars on the bottom. If these horses interest you, give us a call at the Lazy D-P, we like to talk horses!
